Sunrise Flock – JMP – Jayne Tannahill, Coleraine, Northern Ireland
The flock was founded in 2002 with the purchase of 2 ewe lambs from the Stewart’s Flock of John Stewart, followed the next year with a number of Stewart Gimmers and two gimmers from the Tullyvallen Flock of AJ Graham. Another influential female came in the shape of MAG F16 who was champion NI Premier Sale 2007, she would breed in her 1st year a ram lamb sold privately to the Oldwood Flock and her females continue to breed strongly in our flock. The most recent purchase was the 1000gns Ruval Mae, who has already proved her worth with her first lamb being showed as a gimmer this year taking 3rd at Balmoral, 1st Ballymena, 1st and Champion at Ballymoney Show.
One of our first flock successes was Sunrise Debonnair who was 1st prize ram lamb RUAS and went on to be Champion at the NI Premier Sale, sold for 950gns, he then went on to be breed champion and Reserve Interbreed Champion at the Highland show in 2005.
We enjoy supporting our local shows and believe strongly in the value of them being our shop window and very important in keeping up the profile of Rouge Sheep among commercial producers. Every year we aim to attend between three and six shows to include RUAS. Show Successes include –
Interbreed Ram Lamb Champion Ballymoney 2015
4 x Reserve Champion RUAS (Balmoral)
3 x Champion NI Premier Sale
Reserve Female Champion Carlisle Sale 2013
Some of the most influential sires we have used include –
Ruval Endeavour 1500gns (in partnership with Tullyvallen Flock)
Millend Lighthouse 1000gns (in partnership with Tullyvallen Flock)
Castlescreen Norway – top price ram lamb NI 2013
FR361919 20034 – French Import 2013
In 2013 we decided to join the Signet Performance Recording Scheme as an aid to further improving the flock. We have always aimed to breed genuine, correct sheep that go on to do well with the emphasis on confirmation, skin and style.
Visitors are always welcome to view our flock!
