Jets flock soars to victory at the Great Yorkshire Show
The Rouge classes at this year’s Great Yorkshire Show were held in bright sunshine, with a solid show of sheep forward despite the heat. Taking on the judging duties was Mrs Pat Imlah of the Bennachie Flock, who placed a tidy line-up of sheep across the classes.
Taking top honours was Ian Teasdale, Jets Flock, of High Farm, Pockley, York, whose aged ewe was awarded female champion and overall breed champion. The homebred ewe, Jets Ailsa, born 22 January 2022, is by Fairyglen You Tube and out of Knighton Who’s That Girl. She impressed the judge with her correctness, style, and presence.
It was a successful day all round for Mr Teasdale and the Jets Flock, who secured red rosettes in the aged ewe, shearling ewe, and ewe lamb classes, along with strong placings in both the pairs and group of three sections.
Standing reserve overall champion was Richard Rundle, Kestle Flock, Newquay, Cornwall, also with an aged ewe – Kestle Bessie, born 19 January 2023, by Glenkeen Warlock and out of Knighton Valentines. The ewe followed the champion closely through the aged ewe class, the female championship, and finally into the overall, demonstrating the strength of the class.
In the male section, Alistair and Alison Mitchell, Grassknop Flock, Penrith, took the male championship with an eye-catching ram lamb, while Anthony Carter, Millcroft Flock, Dawlish, Devon, stood reserve with his shearling ram.
The pairs and group of three classes were won by Mr Rundle, showing strength across his show team on the day.
Congratulations to all exhibitors for flying the Rouge flag and braving the Harrogate heat to showcase their sheep.
